About Experience Manresa and Bages

Experience Manresa and Bages (Viu Bàsquet Manresa) is a tourism platform created by Bàsquet Manresa to turn every home game into a reason to discover the Bages region. Every season thousands of visiting fans travel to Manresa, and until now that opportunity went untapped.

Fans find a directory of more than 50 partner venues labelled "Friends of Basketball" (restaurants, accommodation, wineries, transport and cultural activities), a calendar of local events, more than 55 published match guides and articles about local heritage. They can also book and pay for match experiences online through Stripe. Management is automated end to end, so the club can run the portal without adding staff.

The site is built with Django and Wagtail and is available in Catalan, Spanish and English, with Wagtail AI helping to translate content for international fans who come for European competitions such as the EuroCup. It runs on PostgreSQL and Docker.

What to notice

Summary

This is the English-language landing page for "Viu Bàsquet Manresa," a Django-powered website that promotes the basketball team Bàsquet Manresa (also known as Kids&Us Manresa) alongside tourism in the Manresa and Bages region. The page showcases upcoming game schedules, a curated list of local activities (restaurants, wineries, accommodations, and transport), and articles about regional attractions like the Geopark, Montserrat, and the Baroque Museum of Catalonia. The primary goal is to encourage visitors to attend live basketball games while discovering the local culture and territory.

Target audience

This landing page is primarily built for basketball fans and sports tourists interested in attending live games of the Bàsquet Manresa team. It is also targeted at general tourists and visitors looking to explore the city of Manresa and the Bages region in Catalonia, with a focus on combining sports, gastronomy, heritage, and nature.

Key features

  • Upcoming Basketball Game Listings: A dynamic list of upcoming matches with dates, times, team logos, and direct links to game details.
  • "Basketball Friend" Local Business Directory: A curated list of restaurants, wineries, hotels, and transport services each marked with a "Basketball friend" badge, suggesting partnerships or official recommendations.
  • Discover / Blog Section: Articles highlighting regional tourist attractions, providing inspiration for visitors.
  • Multilingual Support: The site is available in Catalan, Spanish, and English, with a prominent language switcher.
  • "Live the Experience" Call to Action: A dedicated page and prominent button encouraging users to immerse themselves in the match-day experience.
  • Cookie Consent and Analytics: Integration with Google Analytics and CookieYes for compliance and tracking.

Pain points

  • Discovering Local Offerings: Visitors coming for a basketball game may find it hard to quickly find nearby places to eat, sleep, or visit. The site curates these into a single, accessible directory.
  • Navigating a New Region: Tourists unfamiliar with Manresa and Bages may not know what attractions exist. The "Discover" articles help solve this by highlighting key landmarks.
  • Finding In-Game Information: Fans need a quick, centralized way to see the upcoming schedule, opponents, and competition type (League, Eurocup).
  • Combining Sports with Tourism: The site addresses the difficulty of planning a trip that seamlessly combines attending a sporting event with exploring the local area.

Usage instructions

Users browse the homepage to view upcoming basketball matches and click "Go to game" to access detailed match pages. They can scroll through the "Featured activities" section to find recommended restaurants, hotels, wineries, and transport providers, each linked to a dedicated page. The "Latest articles" section provides blog-like content about regional attractions. Navigation menus at the top allow users to explore specific categories ("Discover," "What to do," "Live the Bages," "Matches").
